American Heart Month

Happy Friday!!
We've made it through another week and it's finally the weekend!! I am so looking forward to some down time and getting the chance to unwind. So February is American Heart Month and my job, Greenway Health, has decided to "GO RED" this Friday to recognize it. American Heart Month is a federally designed event that creates a time to remind Americans to focus on their hearts and encourage families, friends and communities to get involved. Heart health is so important as it is vital for our lives. A lot of times we don't think twice about how we're truly treating our bodies and what we're putting it through on a daily basis. One of the biggest parts of living healthy is all about making healthy choices. I mentioned to you all in my "Reflecting on 2017" post that one of my goals for 2018 was to get healthier. I currently started the Advocare 24-Day Challenge. I'll be doing a blog post once I've finished the challenge and let you all know my thoughts and how it went later. I'm taking the necessary steps to better my heart and overall health. Here are some ways you can improve your heart health:

Exercise
Regular exercise is an important way to lower your risk of potential heart disease. Just by exercising at least 30-minutes or more a day can help you lose weight, improve your cholesterol and even lower your blood pressure! I love doing HIIT workouts; it allows you to burn more calories and pushes your heart rate more than you could with steady-state exercise. It's also been shown that HIIT training can impove blood pressure and cardiovascular health!

Stress Management
This is a topic that everyone deals with on a daily basis. Whether it be about school, work, our personal lives, stress is always there in some capacity; how do we deal with it is the question! I think one of the best ways to reduce stress is to remove yourself from whatever the situation is and find something that calms you down. For me that's yoga; it allows me to focus on my breathing, clear my thoughts and relax my entire body. There are also guided meditations that walk you through deep breathing exercises and you really feel good after it. You should give it a try!

Eating Healthy
This is one of the BIGGEST topics of heart health and one that a lot of people struggle with. What we put in our body positively or negatively affects how our body functions day-to-day. While I do love indulging sometimes, I try my hardest to put things in my body that are good for it and that are going to give me the fuel I need to last through the day. Starting my Advocare journey has me really focused on what is good for my body and how to properly feed it. There are lots of sites that can give you great tips and yummy recipes that are good for you and even taste great! This is I think the first step that should be the main focus when thinking of heart health.
I hope you found this helpful and learned a little bit more about heart health. Go and spread your knowledge to friends and family and inform them of how to keep a healthy heart.
Have a great Friday!!
