I've mentioned several times over the past few weeks that I'm on path to being healthier in all aspects of life. Majority of that is with food and fitness, putting things in my body that are good for it and working out. I always like to show what I'm eating for the week on Sundays when I'm meal prepping. With that I've gotten some questions about some of the things I buy when I'm at the grocery store. I will admit, the idea of meal prepping can be daunting but once you get the hang of it, it's a piece of cake. I think one of the biggest things you can get stuck on is, "What the heck do I actually buy from the store?!" LOL. This was my initial thought but with the help of pinterest and my bff Molly who has great meal ideas (you can find them here & here) I've gotten to a point where I can walk in a grocery store and know exactly what to get! I wanted to take you along on my Sunday shopping trip and share some of the things I like to pick up for the week!
When I'm shopping to prep for the week, I'm usually looking for things that quick to make but things that I know are going to taste good. I'm a person who typically eats the same things so I tend to make 2-3 different variations of food that I'll have for lunch or dinner for the entire work week. I usually don't worry about the weekends since I have more time and might be going out for a meal. In the pictures above are just a few of the things I tend to gravitate towards each shopping trip.
1. Zatarains Rice Mix
These are really good and there are so many variations that you can choose from. I tend to gravitate to the jumbalaya mix; it's seasoned really well and pretty much cooks itself once it's on the stove. You can add meat to it, so I usually will add turkey sausage cut up and that's it.
2. Broccoli
I LOVE broccoli; this is one thing that I ALWAYS get at the store. I usually pair this with chicken and even as my vegetable alongside the Zatarains rice. Broccoli has so many proteins and nutrients so this is a great store grab.
3. Romaine Lettuce
If you've been following the blog for a while, you would know that salads are my FAVORITE food! I could eat a salad pretty much everyday and at one point I did. With that being said, romaine lettuce is a necessity for me and they're usually bogo at publix so I can get two for the price of one.
4. Fruit
Fruit in general is always good to have to snack on. I love most fruits but I love to have grapes during the week. I prefer green grapes and love to snack on those during the day. Since I'm at a desk 98% of the day, I like to have snacks like this that are healthier and will fill me up.
5. Delighted by Dessert Hummus
I love hummus in general but this takes hummus to a while other level. My bff Molly turned me onto this product and I am forever grateful. If you have a craving for something sweet, this is such a great option. I love the brownie batter flavor but they do have snickerdoodle, vanilla bean and mint chocolate. If you find it at the store...TRY IT!
6. Drink Mix
Water is very important and I try to drink as much water as possible during the day. I love these drink mixes from Publix because they add variety to my water intake during the day and are only 5 calories.
